Sigiriya Museum, A gift from Japan to people of Sri Lanka – President Mahinda

As a nation we believe in providing our people the opportunity to view all things of historical value. Therefore the donation of this museum from Japan to the people of Sri Lanka is a gift to our tradition of protecting and viewing the treasures of history, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the opening ceremony of newly constructed Sigiriya Museum, today, July 28.
Since independence Japan has contributed much to help us rise as a free nation. They have helped us to protect our sovereignty. The Japanese are a courageous nation. We have a strong friendship with them as Asians.

Japan is also assisting us in carrying out the major development work in the North, after the defeat of terrorism, the President said.

Commander Gives Patient Hearing to Recuperating War Heroes

COMMANDER OF THE ARMY Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya in the company of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), accompanied by several senior members of the SVAB visited War Heroes who were injured during the victorious humanitarian operations, but still under medical treatment at Military Hospital, Colombo this morning (24). This is the first visit of Lieutenant General Jayasuriya to the Military Hospital after he assumed duties as Commander of the Army. During the visit, Army Commander shared a couple of views with War Heroes in hospital and every one of them was given a gift parcel containing fruits and chocolates.  Lieutenant General Jayasuriya also made specific inquiries into the facilities at the hospital, provided to the patients and other necessary improvements need to be done to the hospital in the future.

Intermittent Confrontations Injure more Terrorists

MULLAITTIVU: TIGER terrorists, now confined to a mere land stretch of about 5 km in the ‘No Fire Zone’ (NFZ) with the intention of blocking troop movements went on directing fire on the troops inside the NFZ during Tuesday (5). It is believed at least a dozen of Tigers suffered death or injury during these clashes. 'Let the civilians leave', Akashi urges from LTTE

We hope that even now the LTTE will change its attitude and let the IDPs in areas it still holds move to other areas, as several thousands of others had already done, Japan's special envoy for Peace Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka Yasushi Akashi told a media briefing in Colombo on Saturday(May 2).

"It is heartwarming that people from the South of Sri Lanka, most of them Sinhalese, are collecting goods and money for the internally displaced people from the north. I hope this spirit of harmony and friendship will prevail in the future," he said.

Foreign media taken on a free ride by the LTTE

The LTTE has taken many journalists, especially foreign journalist for a ride. We expect foreign journalists to be aware of what happened to the lady who rode the tiger. The LTTE known also as the "Tamil Tigers" are now on the mat in many countries for numerous offences committed by their leadership. The offences range from extortion, forced child conscription as 'child' soldiers, to drug smuggling, human racketeering, weapons smuggling, illegal procurement of weapons including sophisticated weapons, credit card fraud, murder and financial fraud. According to experts, 'Journalists' have also been drawn into their fold for many reasons, one of which is to sell pro- LTTE propaganda. .
